Denver Water will raise rates in 2024 to help pay for projects including the expansion of a reservoir, the replacement of lead pipes and other projects. The new rates, effective Jan. 1, will increase costs for most single-family homes between $1.60 and $2.30 a month, according to a news release Wednesday announcing the changes. The utility provides water to 1.5 million people across the metro area — about a quarter of the state’s population. The rate increase and the projects it will help fund will help prepare the system for climate change, population growth and economic problems, Denver Water CEO Alan Salazar said in a news release.“Water is a crucial resource that supports all of us,” Salazar sai...

Frank Clark, Super Bowl champion Chief and for-now Denver Bronco, makes strange return to Arrowhead: “I hope he balls out, man.”

Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 20:17:58 GMT

As the Broncos put together the last of their prep work for the New York Jets in practice late last week, a familiar scene played out in the outside linebackers group.During an individual period open to reporters, position coach Michael Wilhoite gave instructions on the block-shedding move to work and his guys started through the drill.Partway through, they stopped for a correction and a demonstration. Not from Wilhoite, but from Frank Clark. The veteran pass-rusher hasn’t been with the Broncos long, but this is a regular occurrence for the now elder statesman in a mostly young group. And when Clark coaches, his teammates listen.“His coaching style is wild,” third-year outside linebacker Jonathon Cooper told The Denver Post. “It’s good. He’s very direct with what he shows you. He’s very clear and he definitely knows how to show you throughout his movements. I don’t know, I feel like when it comes to him telling you to do something, you understand what he’s trying to tell you.”Coach Cla...

100-win Dodgers try to stave off elimination

Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 20:17:58 GMT

The Los Angeles Dodgers cobbled together a 100-win regular season, using a strong offense to compensate for a banged-up starting rotation.Time is running out for that formula to produce even one postseason win.The Dodgers are down to their last chance in Game 3 of the NL Division Series, facing a 2-0 deficit against the Arizona Diamondbacks when the series resumes on Wednesday night.Much has been made of L.A.'s bad starting pitching in the first two games — particularly Clayton Kershaw's debacle in Game 1 — but it's also true that the Dodgers' offense hasn't been doing much, either. Mookie Betts is 0 for 7 over the first two games while Max Muncy is 1 for 7 and Freddie Freeman is 1 for 6.“They’ve gotten the big hit," said Muncy, who hit 36 homers during the season. "In the playoffs, that’s what matters. You’ve got to get the hit when it matters. They’ve done that several times and we haven’t.”Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Mookie Betts looks on from the dugout during the fifth ...

iPhone vs Pixel: Which takes better pictures?

Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 20:17:58 GMT

The iPhone is one of the best smartphone cameras you can get, especially with this year's upgraded megapixels and better zoom. But Google recently unveiled its new Pixel 8 lineup, with improvements to the camera hardware and AI smarts. To find out which smartphone camera takes better photos, I took both the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Pixel 8 Pro out on the streets of New York City to capture photos and videos side-by-side. I posted the results to my Instagram account for a vote.In this car wash shot, the iPhone's brighter colors and saturation edged out the Pixel, which stayed truer to life.(iPhone photos are on left, Pixel on right)But for this regular street scene, the Pixel won out, likely because the iPhone seemed too saturated. When it came to 5x zoom, the iPhone nailed this shot of the Edge attraction and won the vote. Both phones have a 5x optical zoom lens, but the iPhone's hybrid zoom up to 25x worked better. In this macro shot of a flower, people preferred the iPhone's macro shot....
