(AP) — Missouri used a second-half scoring spurt from Kobe Brown to win its first NCAA Tournament game in 13 years, beating Utah State 76-65 on Thursday.Brown hit three 3-pointers in a span of just over three minutes to fuel a 13-2 run that turned a two-point deficit into a 62-53 lead.“He’s our MVP. JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Conservation has announced scheduled hunting seasons for black bear and elk in the state. Applications for hunting permits will be accepted beginning May 1.The MDC will offer 400 permits for black bear and five permits for bull elk. Only Missouri residents will be allowed to apply for hunting permits. Persons must be 11 years of age by the first day of a respective hunting season will qualify.The application period runs from May 1 to May 31, with a $10 fee per applicant. People can apply online at mdc.mo.gov/buypermits, through the Department of Conservation's free MO Hunting app, through a permit vendor, or by calling the MDC at 1-800-392-4115.All permits will be assigned via a random drawing, according to the MDC. ST. LOUIS -- A man has turned himself in to police Wednesday for the killing of Eddie Johnson, 30. Travon Stevenson, 28, faces murder and other charges. He is currently being held without bond.Police responded to a report of a shooting at the Arlington Grove Apartments , located in the Wells Goodfellow neighborhood, on March 7 at around 2:45 pm. They found Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect ran away before officers arrived.Investigators believe the victim was involved in a domestic dispute with the mother of his child. Homeland Security Investigations special agents and officers from the Los Angeles Police Department arrested a Woodland Hills man on federal charges that he was extorting "protection" money from several businesses in Koreatown. According to the Justice Department, the federal investigation into 38-year-old Daekun Cho began a year ago and found that he was demanding protection money from karaoke businesses in Koreatown as well as from “doumi,” who are hostesses employed by patrons of the karaoke establishments. “To further his extortion scheme, Cho committed shootings, a carjacking, a kidnapping and other acts of physical violence,” the complaint affidavit said. “Cho made explicit threatening statements to the doumi drivers and karaoke bar owners to get them to pay a monthly fee.” The affidavit also outlines other physical attacks committed by Cho dating back to May of 2021, when he is alleged to have beaten a victim with a baseball bat after the victim refused to pay protection...Port of Los Angeles agrees to green shipping corridor with Tokyo and Yokohama ports

The Port of Los Angeles has reached an agreement with the Ports of Tokyo and Yokohama in Japan to create more sustainable shipping passages. The agreements, known as Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs), were signed by Port officials during the 2023 California Japan Clean Energy Trade Mission this week. A Green Shipping Corridor partnership has been agreed upon between the three ports to be established within the coming year.
