Orioles observations on DL Hall’s ‘all-time high’ feel for his pitches, Tyler Wells’ final audition and more The slow start to spring training might have set DL Hall’s timeline back, but it didn’t alter his stuff. After his second spring outing Saturday, Hall was encouraged by how his pitches performed against a Pittsburgh Pirates lineup mostly filled with regulars.“My feel is probably at an all-time high,” Hall said. “My feel for all my pitches has been great.”Hall, the Orioles’ No. 2 pitching prospect, worked 2 1/3 innings in relief and threw 50 pitches — another step as the 24-year-old continues building up as a starter. He allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out three, displaying the pitch arsenal that made him a first-round selection in 2017 and ranked as a consensus top-100 prospect.“The stuff was really good again tonight,” manager Brandon Hyde said. “Really impressed with the strike throwing. The strike-throwing ability the last couple times has been really good. Good changeup, good slider with hi...

Bruins notebook: Garnet Hathaway looking good in black and gold Garnet Hathaway looks ready for the playoffs to start. And the Maine native has looked ready to be a Bruin his whole life.Hathaway was front and center in a taut, grind-it-out game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday. He stood toe-to-toe with big Pat Maroon in a fight to start the game and then scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal late in the second period in the B’s Atlantic Division-clinching 2-1 win over the Bolts.Hathaway is exactly what the Bruins bargained for when they got him in a trade with the Washington Capitals with Dmitry Orlov.“He’s been great,” said Patrice Bergeron, whose line was often checked by Hathaway’s line before the trade. “I’ve always liked his game. I guess you don’t like playing against him, but he’s very efficient, very good for his team. He came in and fit in nicely on that line, but also off the ice. He’s a great guy. He seems to be a character guy. He’s leading his own way, leading b...

AP source: Biden’s pick to lead FAA withdraws nomination WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — President Joe Biden’s choice to run the Federal Aviation Administration has withdrawn his nomination, a setback for the administration that comes after Denver International Airport CEO Phillip Washington appeared to lack enough support in the closely divided Senate.Washington’s withdrawal was confirmed Saturday night by a person familiar with the situation who insisted on anonymity to discuss the matter. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.Republicans were united in opposition to Washington, calling him unqualified because of limited aviation experience. Democrats and allied independents still might have pushed the nomination through, but key senators on their side balked at supporting Biden’s pick.Washington’s fate appeared settled when Senate Commerce Committee Chair Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., abruptly called off a scheduled vote last Wednesday — a sign that she lacked enough votes to move the nomination out of committee...

Loons let Vancouver score late stoppage time goal in a 1-1 draw at Allianz Field A headline in the Vancouver Sun this week didn’t think too highly of Minnesota United’s roster. With the Loons having seven players away for national team duties, along with the continued absence of Emanuel Reynoso, the newspaper leaned into the sensational, saying MNUFC was “missing just about everybody.”Well, MNUFC showed the group they still had can be somebody.Striker Mender Garcia’s first half goal looked like to would be enough, but Vancouver equalized in the last seconds of stoppage time for a 1-1 draw on Saturday at Allianz Field.Loons manager Adrian Heath and staff had raised their arms thinking the match was over, but the six minutes of stoppage time weren’t done. Mikael Marques’s failed juggle in midfield led to Vancouver’s final counter attack, with Simon Becher scoring the winner.Minnesota has now dropped four points from leading positions in two games at home this season.Minnesota (2-0-2, 8 points) showed the depth of the roster, with players such as defender Brent Kall...
