We’re having a potluck breakfast at work for a coworker who is leaving the department. Do I have to take others' gluten and dairy allergies into mind when I’m making the dish that I’m bringing? I know it’ll taste better with the crescent roll crust, but I also know there are gluten-free people who I work with. I am not gluten-free and I don’t think that people should have to eat gluten-free because of a few people. is that insensitive? Thanks so much.~ AnnaI don't think it's insensitive. I think whoever is planning the party should have told someone to make a gluten free dish, but since that wasn't Anna, I say make the food the way you want to make it. Everyone has som...

Ask Amy: Online match becomes a Cyrano situation

Ask Amy: Online match becomes a Cyrano situation Dear Amy: I have met a number of friends online, especially since Covid. One of these friends is a guy I became attracted to.He makes me laugh, he’s kind, and I genuinely have a good time talking to him. Although we had been friends for the better part of a year, our communication was only over text. While he had seen photos of me, I had no idea of what he looked like.I don’t consider myself to be a shallow person. I have always believed it’s what’s on the inside that counts.Well, we finally video chatted last night, and I have no attraction to him at all. I tried convincing myself that the lack of attraction wasn’t a big deal, but I couldn’t do it.There’s nothing wrong with the way he looks, he’s just a lot older than I thought and drastically different from what I pictured.I feel like a terrible person and have been berating myself all day.How dare I suddenly dislike this wonderful guy who I had a great connection with over such a tiny reason?Honestly, I also feel embarrassed for ha...

Bridge: April 7, 2023 Unlucky Louie attracts adversity like a slice of bread is prone to mold.As South in a penny game at my club, Louie leaped to six hearts at his third turn. (North’s cue bid of five clubs, going beyond game when he had no help in diamonds, was bold.) West led the king of clubs to dummy’s ace.Louie saw that if trumps broke no worse than 3-1, he could draw them all, then hope to run the diamonds to discard dummy’s remaining clubs and ruff at least one club. But when he led a trump at Trick Two, East discarded. Louie could still pick up the trumps but had to spend all of dummy’s trumps. He lost two clubs.SHUT DOWN“If I were a restaurant,” Louie sighed, “the Health Department would shut me down.”Louie makes the slam with foresight. He ruffs a spade at the second trick and takes the ace of trumps. He can then continue thus: trump to dummy’s eight, spade ruff with the queen, trump to the ten. He draws West’s last trump with the kin...
